Veterans

It remains with the veteran and interferes with civilian life. There is a way that the trauma of war can be separated from the veteran so that it can be remembered but not with the emotions that can interfere with normal civilian life. There is a kind of therapy that can resolve the issues that are carry overs that interfere with life after war. A specialized therapy called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), can actually separate the feelings that were created by negative experiences so that the pictures will not affect the soldier anymore. Unlike exposure therapy, this specialized therapy is a short-term brief therapy that is very effective in dealing with PTSD. (See section on EMDR).

Many veterans have used EMDR to remove the trauma and emotions to help them re-establish themselves to civilian life.
